index page without style

I'm trying to install lampcms on a Ubuntu server. I've followed the installation instruction word by word. Now I go to localhost/lampcms/www/index.php and get a styleless homepage like this:

Here is my file structure: /var/www/lampcms/

And btw, shouldn't it be an installation button somewhere? All I did (following the instruction) was to create a MySQL database and fill in the database information and username in the configuration file. However, that db is empty, there're no tables at all. I assume the installation process should create tables for that db. Am I missing something?

Also, when I click on "Log in" button, the page localhost/index.php is retrieved; consequently I get this error. "The requested URL /index.php/ was not found on this server". The index.php file I have is in /var/www/lampcms/www/index.php so certainly I should get that error.

Presuming you changed the server document root from var/www to var/www/lampcms/www on your server config i also needed to sudo chown -R www-data:www-data /var/lib/php5. Installing the MongoDB ubuntu package with sudo apt-get install mongodb caused alot of issues. although it was installed and the server was running i kept getting errors saying i couldn't connect. So i un installed and used the 10gen package from mongodb instead which had everything working as it should. I use the ubuntu upstart version. I have this running on ubuntu 12.04 you can read what i did here

Thank you gognos. I did installed mongo using 10gen package and also using ubuntu upstart. I missed the part of changing document root. I've just fixed it and now the Home and Login button work. But no matter what user name and password I use, I either get wrong user or wrong password. The Signup link does not work. I got this error when using Signup link "Error: Error occurred. Administrator has been notified of the error. We will fix this as soon as possible". Do you have any idea how to fix it?

The original admin email account should be the one you entered in the lampcms !config.ini. the first time you log in as that user you set a username and a password will be sent to the admin email address presuming the mail server is set up properly. Is that all done in your config as well ?Same as with a user joining. You can then change your password after logging in with password for the first time .

Thank you so much for your help, Gognos. I got it work. Only problem I have now is when I click Register after filling in info, it takes quite long (a few minutes) before registration is complete. Is it because of my mail server is slow? Will install lighttpd help? I'm not sure I understand why you have to install lighttpd in your tutor? Can you explain that? Thanks a lot!

I went with lighttpd because it was mentioned on system requirements as the server used by the developer. You can use apache or nginx instead of lighttpd. As for the time in registration are you referring to how long it takes to receive the email? im a little unclear with what you meant.

What I mean was when I click on "Sign up" button, fill in user name, email, captcha and hit register, it takes quite long for the site to send request until I see "registration is completed". Don't you have that experience?
